Student Grants for Benelux IEEE students
The JOINT IAS, PELS & PES BENELUX CHAPTER of the IEEE can financially support Benelux students (IEEE student members) to participate in the IEEE INTELEC2011 conference in Amsterdam from 9-13 October 2011. The CHAPTER funds grants which covers the costs of the conference activities including tutorials, workshops and exhibition (one apply per applicant). The applicant has to mail his/her request before September 1st to chapter chair P.Bauer@TUDelft.nl (maximum one A4 including your photograph). Please state why you are requesting monetary assistance as it relates to your own personal educational goals.

Round Table Session: Fuel cells technologies for telecommunication sector
Focus on UPS, alternative power source

We are pleased to announce a roundtable session on fuel cells for telecommunication, focusing on UPS and backup power during the Intelec 2011 conference. This session is organized in partnership with Fuel Cell Europe. With this session we aim to:
  • Present fuel cells technologies: role, state of art and potentials for telecommunication applications, putting the focus on UPS and backup power
  • Bridge the gap between the fuel cell industry and the telecommunication industry to create synergies and initiate market opportunities
  • Raise awareness among the two group of stakeholders
  • Demonstrate activities, projects and commercial applications in fuel cells for the telecommunication sectors

INTELEC’s technical sub-groups
IEEE has recently established two new technical subcommittees on:
1. Information and Communication Infrastructure Resistant to Extreme Events (ICIREE)l.
2. HV DC Powe for data communication center,
The activities will give a special dimension to the INTELEC conference in Amsterdam.

This committee is now preparing a workshop and session on this topic. Next Newsletter will present more information about these activities. The chairman is Wim De Kesel (Le Grand, Belgium), co-chairman is Alexis Kwasinski. This committee has an official IEEE status and will be in close cooperation with IEC. More specific DC grids are now a hot topic at INTELEC2011.

2. Information and Communication Infrastructure Resistant to Extreme Events (ICIREE)

The institution is stimulated strongly by a number of INTELEC/PELS countries. Recent international calamities clarify the urgent need for such a group of experts. This sub committee will be launched at the next INTELEC conference in Amsterdam. The chairman will be Alexis Kwasinski (University of Texas, USA). He will organize activities on disaster control at the coming INTELEC conference. Next Newsletter will present more information about these activities.
